Dun Laoghaire

Two of our centers are located in Dun Laoghaire (universally pronounced as dunleary)which is a large residential town, shopping area and holiday resort, beautifully situated on the southern shore of Dublin Bay. The area is renowned as one of the most magnificent in Europe. Two fine piers shelter its magnificent harbour and being Ireland's chief yachting centre races are held regularly from May to September. There is bathing at Seapoint ,Sandycove and Killiney, several 18-hole golf courses within a short distance of each other. Leopardstown racecourse, driving range and short golf course is 5km away. Other local activities include indoor swimming, tennis, bowls, sea angling, ten-pin bowling and walking.

Founded in 1989, Active Language Learning (ALL) offers high quality programmes in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Located in the lovely coastal town of Dun Laoghaire, just 15 minutes from the city centre, we provide a wide range of programmes with our excellent facilities and experienced qualified trainers.

We are highly regarded internationally for our commitment to our students, not only in the excellent teaching methods used but, also, for the care and attention they receive from our staff.

Courses Offered

With four centres we offer Adult courses all year round, Intensive Study Week programmes for teenagers, Junior summer courses, and Academic year/semester programmes.

Since 1989, Active Language Learning has offered an "Irish Student Programme" which offers French, German and Spanish language courses to Irish teenagers and English to foreign students during the months of July and August.

Minimum Course fee 210 euros per week

Accommodation

Students are accommodated in carefully selected families who live locally within walking distance or a few short bus journey away to the centres. This is a very important part of the course as it offers the opportunity to speak English and experience Irish family life and culture.

Students are regarded as a member of the family and each family will accommodate only one student of any mother tongue

Irish family life is warm, relaxed and friendly. Students are made to feel at home and full board is provided.

Host family as well as guesthouse, hotel and hostel accommodation is also available for our adult all year round school.

Active Language Learning Social and Leisure Programme (Junior Centre). 

Our social and leisure programme in our Junior Centre consists of sports, arts and crafts, computers, music, videos, cookery and excursions to cultural and historical destinations and evening entertainment.

Leisure Activities

Fully equipped gymnasium with facilities for volleyball, badminton, table tennis, snooker, chess and board games, and heated swimming pool. The arts and crafts studio is a very popular activity for many students with its potter's wheel and kiln. The centre also boasts a 24 terminal computer laboratory and a fully equipped kitchen with ten work stations. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, football, basketball, baseball and rounders.

Excursions

Excursions to Dublin to visit many of its cultural and historical buildings, art galleries and museums. Regional tours are held weekly to such destinations as Glendalough, Powerscourt Estate, The National Stud, Galway and Connemara. Evening entertainment consists of twice weekly events such as cinema, bowling, disco, ceili, barbecue, karaoke, International dinner parties and farewell party.

Irish Hospitality
